Pre-Birthday Week Off

I’ve had this week booked off work to use up my annual leave before the allowances get refreshed in April. It was also supposed to be a week of day trips out to places that I’ve been meaning to visit on the train. The weather has conspired against me though, and I’ve been confined to the local area thanks to it having been raining every day!
I’ve been using the time to get our diminutive walled garden terrace1 ready for Spring.
The first job was cutting back all the plants to remove the dead material that Winter had killed off. I should’ve done it ages ago, but I’ve just not felt like doing anything in the garden over the last few months.
The next thing to do was fill the wall planters opposite the kitchen window with cyclamen, primroses, pansies and violas. I got the pansies and violas from B&M when we went to buy fresh compost on Monday, and I bought the cyclamen and primroses form the stall in the market ground on Tuesday. I had enough plants to fill all the wall planters as well as troughs on top of the South East and South West facing walls.
I’ve sown seeds for lavender, Love in the Mist (Nigella), cosmos, cornflower, Busy Lizzie, calendula, coleus and a few others.

Our little joke, it’s a 15’x11’ back yard that doesn’t see any sunlight until at least noon. ↩︎
